I woke up this morning to find this from one of my Facebook friends. Rarely does something make me smile before coffee. And since I’m out of town visiting the Marine and his Sunshine, I’m totally going to put it here on my blog and go back to playing with my kids.

Not usually one for frivolity, it should come as no surprise that I would get something for Christmas that is of a practical nature. I’m not into jewelry or perfume, for which CGMan is eternally grateful, since he doesn’t know how to pick any of that out anyway.
One year, I gladly accepted a mixer. Oh, I wanted this mixer in the worst way. I needed this Kitchen Aid, mostly because I blew up my little hand mixer making Christmas cookies for the masses. The next year? I wanted pots and pans. It took several hours and trips to various stores to finally find the perfect set of hard anodized nonstick pots and pans to put under the Christmas tree.
We recently purchased a new faucet for the kitchen sink. I think you might have seen Phoebe helping with the installation? Anyway, I was perfectly happy with a new faucet for Christmas. I mean, it’s a really nice faucet.
What with getting the new faucet, that included installation by a
professional motley crew, I was positive I didn’t need anything else. I’m blessed to have all that I do and I never want to take that for granted. But CGMan thought I might be interested in a little something that would help me stay organized. I’m a Virgo and he knows that is a magic word for me, organized. Oh! To be orderly! I would sell one of the dogs kids to have all my s#!* together. He suggested we take a look at an iPhone.
I was pretty sure I didn’t need an iPhone. I couldn’t see how it would help. It’s just a phone, right? I mean, I jot stuff down so I don’t forget and that has worked
not at all, but in keeping with the Christmas spirit of helping my husband find the perfect gift for me, I went along to take a look.
It didn’t take much more than a glance for me to fall in love. This thing is going to keep me organized forever! I’ll never miss another appointment, or forget what I went to the grocery for. It also has a built in converter! I’ve always wanted to know how many pounds are in a stone (14lbs). From To Do Lists, Checkbook Registers, Recipe Apps and Speed Trap Alerts, this little gadget would totally keep me on track. And when the salesman showed me the shiny pink cover, I knew it was a match made in heaven.
I will be able to do all kinds of
mindless important things with my new iPhone.
and no matter how far away he is, I’ll be able to remember my CGMan:
Oh yeah, I can make phone calls, too.
Can you see how effective I am already?

I had every intention of writing something every day here on the take-a-look-into-Dawn’s-world little blog. But as we all know, something about the holidays takes like 10 hours off every single day, leaving no time to accomplish anything that is not holiday related.
In anticipation of sharing stories with you, I took a few photos. You know, because everybody likes a story with pictures. Now
I can’t remember a single one the moment has passed, but I still have the photos.
Being as how it’s Wednesday, Wordless Wednesday for those of you who can actually go wordless, I will share the pictures and you can make up your own stories. Doesn’t that sound like
a cop-out fun?

(Edited to add- due to technical difficulties, this post was inadvertently posted to last Monday when it should have posted today. )
Re-runs are a natural part of the holiday season. With that in mind, and the fact that I’m on a mini road trip today (what can I say, it’s in my blood) I’m offering a re-run of one of my earlier posts. Fortunately, it’s set to a Christmas song. A real Christmas song.
My Favorite Things (Feel free to sing along!)
These are a few of my favorite things!
White walls and bare walls that need some paint on ‘em
These are a few of my favorite things.
These are a few of my favorite things.
When I’m feeling sad…
I simply remember my favorite things,
and then I don’t feel so bad!
P.S. I’m so sorry I left them out, just this one time…
I couldn’t, for the life of me, get them to rhyme.

I couldn’t find the fancy Random Number Generator that other, more computer savvy bloggers use for their give-aways, but I did find this one:
I’m thinking Mrs. Glosser must be a math teacher. Doesn’t that look like a program a 6th grade math class put together for the internet and people like me? Who else makes a site called Math Goodies? My 6th grade teacher was Mrs. Borkenhagen. No lie. Who could forget that?
Aren’t you happy to know that Gigi left the 5th comment? I’ll bet Gigi is!
Gigi, if you’ll send me an email with your particulars, I’ll make sure you get your delicious bars of chocolate made with camel’s milk. Then you can tell us how you liked it.

Given that half the state of Michigan is not all that fond of us Buckeyes, let me re-phrase that and say, “Who doesn’t love a home made Buckeye candy? With rum?” Oh yeah, that’s more like it. I had me at rum.
Yesterday I finally got around to chronicling the Almond Butter Buckeye recipe and without further ado, I’ll share it with you (did you see how that rhymed?).
Our ingredients include butter, almond butter, rum (I use Sailor Jerry’s, because he’s my favorite sailor) almond extract, and powdered sugar. Then semi sweet chocolate for the coating.
I doubled the recipe because we’re all such fans of
rum Buckeyes. In a large mixing bowl, you add the butter, the almond butter, the rum (mmm, smells good now!), and the almond extract. Then sift in the powdered sugar. This takes a little time, but it is worth it for smooth Buckeyes. Trust me, no one likes a bumpy Buckeye.
Mix it all with an electric mixer until well blended. Dough will be stiff.
Now you put on your favorite Christmas music, because you’re going to be here for a while, and roll out the little balls. I like to make mine about an inch, just the right size to pop in your mouth.
Set them in the fridge for about 30 minutes to get firm. Melt the chocolate on a double boiler, a saucepan over low heat or in the microwave. I personally have never been able to melt chocolate in the microwave. I ruin it every time. How hard can it be?! Now, I just use the double boiler.
After your chocolate is melted and smooth, use a toothpick to dip the ball until it is almost covered. You want your candies to look like a Buckeye.
although? Who looks a little like a Buckeye?
Place in fridge until chocolate is set and Taaa-daaa!
Errr, I mean rum filled Buckeyes. Umm, that’s not quite right, either.
Well, anyway, you’ll have some great candies!
Almond Butter Buckeyes
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/4 cups almond butter (12 oz jar)
3 tablespoons dark rum or 1/2 teaspoon rum extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
3 3/4 to 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
12 ounces bittersweet chocolate morsels, melted
In large mixing bowl, combine butter, almond butter, almond extract and powdered sugar, using electric mixer. Dough will be smooth and firm. Shape into 1 inch balls, place on wax covered cookies sheet. Refrigerate until firm, about 30 minutes.
Dip balls in melted chocolate, using a toothpick, until almost covered. Place on wax paper until chocolate is firm.
